A series of 17 essays then offer historical background and explain both candidates’ positions on 17 key issues. The issues included are: Afghanistan, Campaign Finance, China, Education, Environment, Executive Power in Foreign Policy, Foreign Aid and Development, Healthcare, Immigration, Iran, Gay Marriage, National Debt, Public Safety and Civil Liberty, Russia, Taxes, Unemployment, Unions and Public Employees.

Super Sunday is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, which helps members of the Jewish community and others in need in Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union, and parts of Somerset County.. Make calls (easy, on-the-spot training for all volunteers), donate blood, sign up for the bone marrow registry, drop off food, and shop many vendors. Family activities include interactive story time with PJ Library® and Rock and Wrap (holiday gifts for the needy) with a live DJ.

West Orange High School Will Present Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize Winning Play “Lost in Yonkers”

West Orange High School Drama Club will present Neil Simon’s 1991 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Drama “Lost in Yonkers” on November 1, 2 and 3 at 7:30 pm at the West Orange High School Auditorium, Pleasant Valley Way off of Eagle Rock Avenue.

Called the best play the award-winning comic playwright has ever written, “Lost in Yonkers” received numerous accolades including the 1991 Drama Desk Award for Best New Play and the 1991 Tony Award for Best Play.  The coming-of-age tale is about Bella, a 35-year old mentally challenged sweet, young woman living at home with her stern mother.  Comedy ensues when her n’er do well brother, Eddie, leaves his two young sons on the mother’s doorstep and the boys are left to contend with Grandma, a frightfully intimidating immigrant, Bella and her secret romance with an usher at the local movie house, and Louie, their small-time hoodlum uncle, in this strange new world called Yonkers.

The play, directed by Sandra Van Dyke, will take place at the West Orange High School Auditorium which holds over 900 comfortable seats and features state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems.  The West Orange Drama Club is proud to be a troupe in the International Thespian Society honoring excellence in the work of high school theatre.  The Club also participates in the annual state festival, the international festival in Nebraska and the annual Governor’s Award in Acting competition each year, consistently garnering awards for the entire school as well as individual students.

The incredible student cast includes:  Seniors Kristie Keleshian (Grandma), Sophie Eisenbud (Bella), Jesse Lab (Eddie), Ariel Schwarzman (Louie) as well as  Samantha Nieves and James Steinik as understudies for Grandma and Eddie/Uncle Louie.  Junior Chris Wold plays Jay with sophomore Michael Leonardis as his understudy and sophomore Eli Elman who plays Artie.  Freshman Kate Berwind will play Gert.

Seton Hall University’s Department of Communication and The Arts will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream, opening Oct. 25, 2012 at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) located in downtown South Orange. The classic Shakespeare comedy revolves around the adventures of four young lovers, a group of amateur actors and their interactions with the King and Queen of fairies, It is directed by guest director Alex Carney.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes place just prior to the marriage of the Duke of Athens and the Queen of the Amazons. The romance between four young Athenian lovers becomes complicated when they enter the forest over which the King and the Queen of the fairies preside.

Other visitors to the enchanted forest include amateur dramatists Bottom the Weaver and his friends Snug, Snout, Quince and Flute who want to rehearse their terrible but hilarious version of the play Pyramus and Thisbe. The cast includes Iame Manucci, Christine Byrne, Raphael Glazov, Stephanie Vargas, Ben Yates and Quemars Ahmed.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Oct. 25 – 27 and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the SOPAC ticket office or by calling (973) 313-2787. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for alumni and senior citizens and $5 for students.
