Maplewood/South Orange Professionals In Transition

Come network with us, online, anytime!
Location: 51 Baker St, Maplewood, NJ 07040
When: December 10, 2012
Time: 10:00 am–12:00 pm

The Maplewood/South Orange Professionals in Transition group will be holding one session in December: this Monday morning, December 10th, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, in Memorial Hall at the Main Library (51 Baker St. Maplewood, NJ).  Our December meeting has developed a tradition, in the last two years, of being a time to celebrate with your fellow professionals in transition.  As such, we request that each attendee consider bringing a food or snack or drink item, to the gathering, to share with others.  In the past, items such as bagels, coffee, cookies, cakes, etc. have been brought.  Perhaps you’d like to make your own creation from a favorite recipe…

The session will be a great one for networking with your fellow attendees.  As such, we will do that in two formats.  There will be casual conversation, and for part of the meeting, professional life coach Tony Calabrese will facilitate a “Structured Speed Networking” portion, that will help attendees get to meet as many people as possible.  This format has proven to be successful in other venues, and is one that we're looking forward to trying at M/SO PIT.  So, whether you have attended one of our events before, or are a first timer, please—tell other people, and—come.  We will also have the 2013 schedule available for the group, so you can post it on your calendar.

Join us.
All are welcome—pass it on—tell your friends/neighbors/colleagues/associates…
We always allow time for open networking, both before and after the session.

When: December 22, 2012
Time: 8:00 pm–11:00 pm

Share the joy of the Masterwork Chorus as they celebrate their 250thMessiah Season.  Under the baton of acclaimed Music Director Andrew Megill, the 100-voice Chorus, orchestra, and award-winning soloists perform Handel’s holiday classic for the 249th time on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 8:00 pm at The Concert Hall at the Dorothy Young Center, Drew University, Madison, NJ.  Their 250th performance takes place on. Sunday, December 23, 2012, at 2:00 pm on the Perelman stage at Carnegie Hall

The Chorus, one of New Jersey’s finest symphonic choirs, first performed Messiah in 1957 in Morristown, NJ where December 23, 2012 has officially been proclaimed “Masterwork Chorus Day.”  In 2011, fifty-four years later, Carnegie Hall’s near-capacity audience honored the ensemble with three standing ovations while the Drew performance was completely sold out.  What does it take to perform Messiah 250 times – a dedicated chorus that loves the music, talented music directors, and over two million “Hallelujahs!”

Synchroettes Toys for Tots Exhibition

Synchroettes Junior Team USA
Location: 560 Northfield Ave, West Orange, NJ 07052
When: December 18, 2012
Time: 6:45 pm–7:45 pm

The Synchroettes Synchronized Skating Teams, who practice at the Richard J. Codey arena will be having their annual Toys for Tots Exhibition. All teams, from beginners to our TEAM USA Junior Team will be performing their 2012-2013 Programs!

In lieu of tickets for this event, the Synchroettes are proud to support the US Marine Corps' effort for Toys for Tots so we ask all to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to this cause.

Synchronized skating is a team sport in which 8-20 skaters perform a program together. It uses the same judging system as singles, pairs and dance and is characterized by teamwork, speed, intricate formations and challenging step sequences. As with the other disciplines, all teams perform a free skate with required well-balanced program elements. In addition, teams at the junior and senior level perform a short program consisting of required elements.

Elements in synchronized skating include blocks, circles, wheels, lines, intersections, moves in the field, moves in isolation, no-hold step sequences, spins and pairs moves. The variety and difficulty of elements require that each team member is a highly skilled individual skater. The typical senior-level athlete has passed a senior or gold test in at least two disciplines.

Price: free; bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots!

VIVIAN SESSOMS
With parents deeply rooted in the music world, it’s no shock that Vivian Sessoms has had an amazing musical career.  Raised in Harlem by a jingle singer/songwriter mother and a flutist/ percussionist father (who played with James Brown), Sessoms was singing by the time she could talk.  At the age of nine she began doing television and radio voice-overs, while auditioning for Broadway plays and classically training her voice.  By the time she was 16, Sessoms started to compose her own songs and her career took off.
Her musical growth led to performances with P. Diddy, Donna Summer, Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan, and recordings with Michael Jackson and Gavin Degraw. Recently Sessoms paired up with Chris Parks, guitar/ bass player turned producer, releasing “Sunny One Day.”  “Sunny One Day,” an album of unique soul and jazz, took three years to create but follows her motto of “believing in or feeling something about what you’re sing.”
