Why not make your own scrubs and salts with simple ingredients, eco-friendly recycled containers and love? If you want to feel fresh, renewed and empowered with glowing skin, this is the class for you! Sugar and salt scrubs help to exfoliate, brighten & soften skin, while
working to invigorate the body. We'll use natural oils like grapeseed and safflower with essential oils, extracts and herbs to create  dynamic blends that you can indulge in immediately at home. Students leave with 2 scrubs and 1 bath salt. Containers provided.

We will start with a natural paraben-free lotion base of ingredients like aloe leaf juice, organic sunflower and virgin olive oils and organic shea butter, and add essential oils and natural colorants to create lotion blends that will make you happy, relaxed, motivated and inspired to be your true self. Bring laughter, joy and big smiles along with two of your own personal 4-8 ounce spray bottles for the body sprays that can be reused for new mixes at home. Containers for lotions will be provided.

Working in Wonder

Symposium: Modern/Contemporary Art and the Curiosity Cabinet, February 5th, 2011, 10:00AM

"Working in Wonder," a group exhibition, curated by Erin Gray, Danielle Schallom, and Edward Stapley-Brown, will be on view at The Walsh Gallery at Seton Hall University from January 18 through February 11, 2011.  "Working in Wonder" includes artwork in various media by artists that have been inspired by the Curiosity Cabinet, a historical era of collecting occurring between 1500 and 1700.  The exhibit explores the connection between man-made and natural objects or artificialia and naturalia.

Participating artists include: Lasse Antonsen, Paul Baumann,  Kathy Goodell, Tracy Heneberger, Heidi Jensen, Susan Napack, Roberto Osti, Lisa Perrin, Michael Sherwin, Paul Stout, David K. Thompson, Bill Westheimer and Kimberly Witham.  "Working in Wonder is an excellent example of the art historical impact of the curiosity cabinet seen through the contemporary art on display," explained curators Erin Gray, Danielle Schallom, and Edward Stapley-Brown.   A full color catalogue will be available at the gallery. 

 A symposium, Modern/Contemporary Art and the Curiosity Cabinet, will take place in conjunction with the exhibition.  Lawrence Weschler, author of Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonder, will give a keynote speech on " A Natural History of Wonder."  Other speakers will discuss topics such as Joseph Cornell, The Morbid Anatomy Library, and the work of Damien Hirst. The symposium will be held on the first floor of the Walsh Library in the Beck Room directly across from the Walsh Gallery.   Please RSVP for the symposium by calling 973-761-7966 or emailing museumgrad@shu.edu.  All events are free and open to the public.

On Friday, January 21st at 7 pm, Pastor Reggie Osborne of the Bethel World Outreach Ministries in Newark, will serve as Guest Speaker at Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, Short Hills.  His topic is Commemorating the Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

Pastor Osborne has a commitment to work toward restoring people towards their usefulness in society, and with his staff of volunteers, provides mentorship for men and women returning from incarceration.  He is an active participant in the Newark Coalition for Hope and Peace, a group of Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders committed to effectively mobilize resources in Newark. The group works collaboratively with city officials and other organizations in Newark and in the surrounding communities to lead people away from the paths of despair and violence toward the paths of hope and peace.  Congregation B'nai Jeshurun's Senior Rabbi, Matthew D. Gewirtz, serves with Pastor Osborne on the Coalition Board.

Locally-based professional career coaches will guide small groups through hands-on career transition exercises and discussions, providing opportunities for growth, support and connections on the journey to a new job or career.

3 different Groups are offered for:

- Stay-at-home parents interested in returning to the workforce

- Professionals in career transition                                                                                                                  (one for those who know what they want to do but need help getting there; the other is for those who aren't sure what they want to do or how to get there).

Groups meet at local destinations for five (5) consecutive weekly sessions. Registration taking place NOW for 2011 Circles. Group location, times and dates will be given once you are registered. The rate is $30/session. We strongly encourage you to attend all (5) sessions to maintain group cohesion and to get the most out of it.
