Experienced boaters who like to get their hands dirty will learn the tricks of the trade through demonstrations, hands-on clinics, and free boating advice in the new Fred’s Shed. Other special show features include SAILFEST, a dedicated area with sailboats and accessories; the DEMA Be a Diver Pool, where visitors can submerge themselves into the fun and excitement of Scuba diving in a tropically warm pool; the Powerboat Docking Challenge; and a special appearance by Abby Sunderland, who set sail in an attempt to become the youngest solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe.

YES it is safe to donate blood! Generally, people in good health are eligible to donate. Blood donors must be 16 years of age or older. There are no upper age limits. You should eat meals at regular times. You only need to supply your SS No. on your initial donation with us. After that, your unique donor ID number can be used in it's place. If you don't know your donor ID number our staff will gladly look it up at the blood drive. You will be deferred from giving blood if: You have had routine teeth cleaning or fillings within 24 hours. You have had other dental work within 72 hours. You have a sore throat or fever. You have traveled to an area considered endemic to Malaria within 12 months. You weigh less than 120 pounds.
There is NO risk of contracting any disease through donating blood. Each donor receives his own sterile blood bag and needle, which is used once, and then safely destroyed.
This New Year’s Eve, First Night celebrates its twentieth anniversary. All events will take place at the Maplewood Middle School, except the fireworks that will take place at Memorial Park.
Highlights of the evening include The Circus, various arts and crafts opportunities, Fireworks, and a concert by folk singer Livingston Taylor.
Wristbands are $10 in advance ($11 online), which gets you into all the evening’s events. Seats are limited. Children under three get in free! Wristbands are available for purchase at Maplewood Main Branch Library, South Library, Maplewood Kings, and Cold Stone Creamery in South Orange.

Learn important tips on speaking to children about safety issues with the Golda Och Academy and Jewish Family Service on Thursday, January 12 at 7 p.m. at the Wilf Lower School Campus, 122 Gregory Avenue in West Orange.
JFS Social Worker Shari Bloomberg, LCSW, will lead this interactive program and will present techniques for having this difficult conversation with your children in a non-threatening manner. The snow date is February 2.
