On Saturday, May 5th during the 14th Annual Jersey Cares Day, 2,500 volunteers from all over New Jersey will unite for the common goal of revitalizing and transforming Newark, Jersey City, Edison, Pottersville, the Township of Morris and Trenton.
Volunteers will be revitalizing Clinton Avenue School in Newark by painting inspirational murals throughout the school’s hallways, classrooms, and other areas. These changes will create an invigorating learning environment for students, strengthen community involvement and build the foundation for future volunteerism.

The Iris Family Center at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel (TSTI) invites the public to join them for a pizza party and puppet show. Prospective students and parents will have the chance to meet current preschool families and learn more about the school’s comprehensive program of early childhood education.
Uncle John’s Puppet Show will feature music and comedy with favorite children’s characters. The price for the pizza dinner is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. Attendees may also wish to bring shoes or books to donate to the preschool’s collection drive.

St. Andrew & Holy Communion will be hosting a Solar Screening Event by GreenFaith, an interfaith environmental coalition, and AP Solar on April 22, Earth Day. This event offers homeowners the chance to be screened for a zero-cost solar installation that would provide them with discounted electricity.
For every home that successfully goes solar through this Solar Screening Event and related on-line registration, GreenFaith and AP Solar will make a $200 contribution to St. Andrew & Holy Communion.
This offer is open to all New Jersey homeowners and the public is welcome to this event. This is a great opportunity to learning if your home might qualify for a no-cost solar installation.

The next exhibition at Gallery 1978 is Let's Mix It Up. Dorothy Kuehn has been creating custom surfaces for digital printing using specialized coatings called digital grounds. These materials allow artists to incorporate digital printing with traditional artist techniques.
This show will demonstrate how various artists have married digital imagery with their work. It will feature fiber art, encaustic and printmaking.
The public is invited to the opening reception on April 22nd.
Exhibit runs through May 19th on Saturdays and Sundays 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.

The first annual family ice skating event benefiting the Brian P. Gottlieb Scholarship Fund will take place on May 5th from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Codey Ice Arena in West Orange.
Brian, a 1984 graduate of LHS and member of the 1982 LHS State championship ice hockey team, succumbed to brain cancer in 2009. The Brian P. Gottlieb Scholarship Fund will benefit LHS students.

Also, Spider-Man will lead the children and parents in the Marvel Junior Super Hero Physical Fitness Oath. There will also be healthy snacks for the family.
