Local chapter of NAPO distributing shoes at Newark Now’s Super Summer Kick-Off

Location: Raymond Blvd & Brill St, Newark, NJ 07105
When: July 5, 2012
Time: 11:00 am–1:00 pm

Organizers from the Northern New Jersey (“NNJ”) chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO-NNJ) will be distributing new shoes at the Newark Now’s Super Summer Kick-Off on July 5th, 2012 at the Essex County Riverfront Park in Newark.

Last Fall NAPO and the Soles4Souls charity teamed up for the NAPO Challenge. NAPO chapters and individual organizers were challenged to collect a total of 100,000 pairs of new and gently used shoes for the charity. NAPO organizers collected... and collected... and collected as shoes piled up in garages, on front porches, and in cars around northern New Jersey while participants counted the seemingly endless supply. The 100,000 pair goal was reached in just six months. By NAPO’s annual conference in March, members had collected more than 168,000 pairs of shoes—the most shoes ever donated from a nonprofit organization to Soles4Souls.

The highly organized collection effort here in NJ led the chapter to win the national challenge with a collection total of over 20,000 pairs. To recognize NAPO-NNJ’s win, Soles4Souls awarded NAPO-NNJ several hundred pairs of new children’s shoes for a distribution event of their choice. NAPO-NNJ chose Newark Now, founded by Newark Mayor Cory Booker, which partners with municipal government, residents, grassroots organizations, and the philanthropic community to catalyze the achievement of significant positive outcomes throughout the city.

Distribution will be from 11 am to 1 pm.

For more information on NAPO-NNJ please visit www.naponnj.org.

Location: 45 Macculloch Ave, Morristown, NJ 07960
When: July 29, 2012
Time: 4:00 pm–7:00 pm

Please join us for a fun, family-friendly summer’s afternoon performance by local band Hub Hollow who return to the Macculloch Hall garden after a tremendously popular and well received program last year. Drawing on bluegrass, rock, & old time music, Hub Hollow has been ...described as a new kind of old time music. Their beautifully blended vocals and intricate melodies reflect a lifetime of creating music together. United in their desire to create hard-hitting, interesting acoustic music, the members of Hub Hollow have been playing together, in different configurations for almost 20 years. Blending rock & bluegrass, old time & blues, members have enjoyed success on both coasts at many notable venues, including both Telluride and Grey Fox music festivals. Hub Hollow will perform in the colorful and elegant gardens at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum. The gardens were restored in the 1950s by the Garden Club of Morristown. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore through a variety of summer blooms in the garden and relax on the large lawn during the program. Guests may bring picnics, blankets or chairs and settle back for a late afternoon of great music in a beautiful setting. The Delicious Ice cream Company will be in attendance for guests to purchase refreshments from a fully restored 1950 custom truck with an authentic ice cream man dressed in that same old fashioned outfit you remember as a kid. If you would like to get a taste of Hub Hollow’s other performances visit the Macculloch Hall Historical Facebook page to see a video of last year’s performance and pictures from the day or visit their website at www.hubhollow.com or find them on My Space

Tickets can be purchased from 1pm on performance day and will give guests an opportunity to experience Macculloch Hall before heading out to the garden for the concert. The museum is open for tours of the home and galleries from 1pm, with the last house tour leaving at 3pm. Enjoy the current exhibit The Other Side of War: The Civil War on the Home Front. Life on the home front was not easy for loved ones whom the soldiers left behind. Women played an important role in the Union war effort; starting the U.S. Sanitary Commission, serving as nurses, gathering goods and raising money for the soldiers all contributed to the Union victory. The exhibit features letters to loved ones back home, Lincoln memorabilia from the Museum's collection including a plate from his White House china, and a document signed by Lincoln as President and also by the Secretary of War. The Museum will remain open until 4pm when the performance begins. Admission is Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are free. Please no dogs during programs in the garden. There is no rain date for this performance, should inclement weather cause cancellation the announcement will be made on the Museum’s main phone message. We are pleased to offer accessible restroom facilities during garden events this summer.

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site, collections, exhibits, and educational and cultural programs. It is located in the heart of Morristown’s National Historic District. The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The last tickets for admission are sold at 3 p.m. Members and children under 5 are free.
