Energetic, occasionally moody power-pop with meaningful, clever lyrics and intricate vocal harmonies. Oh yeah, we used to be called Word of the Day.

"Bouncy, harmony-laden piano pop isn’t exactly the kind of music you necessarily associate with New Jersey. But with their catchy debut EP, Apparus is out to change that perception." -Jessica Gentile, Paste Magazine

An Irish folk singer drawing on the Neil Young songwriting tradition, Declan is a product of the folk-rock busking tradition which produced Damien Dempsey, Mundy, and Paddy Casey.  His friendly brand of acoustic pop has brought him multi-platinum success in Ireland. His rough vocal style contrasts neatly with his intelligent string and piano laden arrangements, at once differentiating him from his contemporaries and highlighting the debt he owes to the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Paul Brady, and Burt Bacharach.
Declan O’Rourke has been busy since the release of his third studio album, the curiously titled Mag Pai Zai, in April 2011.  With multi-platinum sales under his belt from his first two albums, Since Kyabram (2004) and Big Bad Beautiful World (2007), Declan has been busy writing and performing.  In June 2012, Declan performed with Bono, Damien Rice, Bob Geldolf and others at the Electric Burma concert honoring Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyin in Dublin.  Declan appears on Kate Rusby’s recent album 20 with duet entitled ‘Bring Me a Boat.’
Before Declan O’Rourke comes to SOPAC, he and his band will perform at South by South West 2013.
