Cookies for Kids Cancer - Bake Sale

Location: 1 Highland Pl, Maplewood, NJ 07040
When: June 16, 2011
Time: 6:00pm–9:00pm

Cookies For Kids’ Cancer raises funds for pediatric cancer research through local bake sales. It was founded by Gretchen Witt, to help increase her young son’s odds in his cancer battle. When 2.5-year-old Liam was diagnosed, Gretchen was shocked to learn that the main reason over 25 percent of kids diagnosed with cancer do not survive is because of a lack of effective therapies. And the reason for the lack of therapies was very simple: lack of funding. Sadly Liam lost his battle to the disease in January.

Little One & Co.,  the Maplewood children’s boutique that carries modern clothing will be hosting their own Cookies for Kids’ Cancer Bake Sale at Maplewood’s 4th annual Girls Night Out. Owner Hanh Truong says she was inspired by the organization’s mission and hopes you will join Little One & Co. in raising money to go towards finding better therapies for pediatric cancer.

Dub Proof will perform funky Roots Reggae band with a dub influence and a NJ attitude on July 20th at 7:30pm.  Dub Proof is a groove oriented band with its home base in Asbury Park, NJ.  Basically, if you took the conscience of Bob Marley, the funk of George Clinton, the boom-bap of classic hip-hop, and the abstract delays and reverbs of 70's dub reggae you'd have the recipe for Dub Proof's songs.  "Dub Proof...brings the free-form vibe of dub to a live music setting for island-flavored reggae grooves,” (MyCentralJersey.com).
