The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is holding their annual celebration and fundraising gala this evening at the Maplewood Women's Club. This year's theme is Celebrating Integration: Creating Communities of Choice. The evening will feature music, dancing, food, conversation, a raffle and a Special Guest Speaker, NJ Attorney General Paula Dow. Two local residents will also be honored for their work toward inclusiveness: Rev. Charles Thompson, retired pastor of First and Trinity Presbyterian Church of South Orange, and Ken Pettis, a founding member of the Coalition and a former mayor of Maplewood. The event kicks off Coalition Month, which will be celebrated for the entire month of October.
