SETON HALL PRESENTS THE SEVENTH ANNUAL MONSIGNOR JOHN M. OESTEERICHER MEMORIAL LECTURE

 

The Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies will welcome an adjunct professor in the MA program in Jewish-Christian Studies to give the Msgr. John M. Oesterreicher Memorial Lecture on October 24, 2010, from 2p.m. - 4 p.m., at the Walsh University Library.

 Father Joseph Sievers, Ph.D., is a scholar who has made major contributions in the study of Josephus Flavius and the Hasmonean dynasty of Second Temple Judais. His lecture will be entitledChristian –Jewish Relations: A View from Rome. The general public is welcome to attend his lecture, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Beck Rooms of the Walsh Library on the South Orange Campus.

  From 1975 -1983 father Sievers taught in the Department of Jewish-Christian studies at Seton Hall.  He was also a professor in the prestigious Pontifical Biblical Institute of the Gregorian University in Rome.  From 2003-2009 he was the first director of the Augustin Cardinal Bea Center for Interreligious Dialogue in the same university. In that capacity he co-edited the proceedings of two important conferences: The Catholic Church and the Jewish People: Recent Reflections from Rome and Good and Evil after Auschwitz: Ethical Implications for Today. In April 2008 he was appointed to be consulter to the Holy See's Commission for Religious Relations with the Jewish People.
