Location: Seton Hall University
400 S Orange Ave, South Orange, NJ
When: February 19, 2013
Time: 7:00 pm–9:00 pm

A lecture by Dr. Arnold Lehman, Director of
The Brooklyn Museum

Arnold Lehman is at the helm of a re-envisioned, and
somewhat maverick, formerly traditional and
European-style museum located in an urban area
that is forever changing due to the emigration of old
ethnic groups, the immigration of new ones, and the
more recent wide-spread gentrification of Brooklyn.
To be relevant to the greatest number of people in a
community that is so diverse and ever-changing is not
an easy task. It is a constant balancing act between
elitism and populism, between scholarship and
outreach, between collections and exhibitions, and
between being relevant to the old and to the young.
Dr. Lehman will address some of the challenges and
opportunities faced by the Brooklyn Museum in a
lecture that will present a unique occasion to hear his
views on a subject of utmost importance for museums today. This lecture will be held in the Beck Rooms of the Walsh Library on campus, located on the ground floor.
