Growing in the Garden – April Programs –

“Signs of Spring” & “Countdown to Earth Day”

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum continues to present its hands-on program for preschool-age children this April. “Growing in the Garden” meets twice a month, to visit the garden at Macculloch Hall and explore environmental topics through a story, walk in the garden and art projects.

The first program is “Signs of Spring”. What signs of spring can we find at the garden at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum?  Children can search for small sprouts, new nests, and tiny tree buds.  In addition to visiting the garden, children will hear a spring story and make a paper bird’s nest to take home. This session takes place on Tuesday, April 2.

On Tuesday, April 16 “Countdown to Earth Day,” learn how kids can help the Earth and make every day Earth day.  Benjamin Franklin said “When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.”  Children will learn about the Earth’s water supply through a story and craft.  While visiting the garden at 19th century Macculloch Hall, children will compare how we use water today in our homes, to how people used water in their homes in the past.

The “Growing in the Garden” programs take place from 1:15pm – 2pm. There are a limited number of spaces, pre- registration is required.  The cost of the program is $8 per (child and caregiver) for Museum members and $12 per pair for non-members. Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org to pre-register.
