Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is delighted to welcome back family descendent Adriane Post to perform “Post-Baroque: The early string quartets of Haydn, Beethoven and Boccherini" with the Diederot String Quartet on Sunday May 5th at 4:30pm.  Ms. Post is the great-granddaughter of Dorothea Miller Post, who was the last family member to live at Macculloch Hall. Dorothea was born at the family home in 1878 and lived there until she died in 1947.  Adriane Post performs on the violin that Dolly, as Dorothea was known, received as a gift from her brother. The 18th century violin was thought to be one of the best he could find for her in New York at the time.  The instrument appeared in many chamber music parties and performances at Macculloch Hall. Passed down through the Post family, Adriane now uses this violin as a baroque instrument, as it would have been used during the early part of its life, before her great grandmother updated it for “modern” use.

Adriane Post can be heard across the US with ensembles such as Apollo’s Fire, Trinity Wall Street Baroque Orchestra, Handel and Haydn Society, Washington National Cathedral Baroque Orchestra, and as co-concertmaster and soloist with New Trinity Baroque. Adriane received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin Conservatory, and her Master of Music as part of the inaugural class of Juilliard’s Historical Performance program. For her performance at Macculloch Hall, Adriane will perform with her group The Diderot String Quartet, highlighting repertoire of the early string quartet, a new musical genre expanded in the classical period (1750-1820).  The group will perform three quartets spanning the Galante and Viennese Classical styles, culminating in the dramatic genius of young Beethoven.  The other members of the Diderot String Quartet are violinist Johanna Novom, violist Kyle Miller, and cellist Paul Dwyer.  Novom has been Associate Concertmaster of Apollo’s Fire since the completion of her Master’s degree at Oberlin Conservatory. She was a 2010-11 fellowship member of the Yale Baroque Ensemble, and has recorded with the Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Concert Royal.  Violist Kyle Miller earned a Master of Music degree from Juilliard and is a member of their Historical Performance program, in which he studies with Monica Huggett and Cynthia Roberts. This July, Kyle joined the Juilliard Orchestra for a BBC Proms Festival concert in London's Royal Albert Hall. Lastly, Cellist Paul Dwyer has commissioned, premiered and recorded new works for solo cello and baroque cello, and has appeared as soloist with orchestras across the country. In 2012, he performed the world premieres of six solo and chamber music works by young composers in a concert at Carnegie Hall. Paul holds a Bachelor's degree from Oberlin Conservatory, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan. Funding has been made possible for this program in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Assisted Listening Devices will be made available for this event.

This performance will take place in conjunction with the current exhibit in the main gallery at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum  “A Fine Collection: Treasures from the Vault” showcasing vivid examples of the antique Oriental rug collection, complemented by textbook examples of fine porcelain, silver, glass and furniture collected by Museum founder, W.
