Freddie Stevenson missed the 70’s and was born in 1980. Raised in Scotland by a Scottish father and an American mother he started playing guitar and writing songs after a family trip to Wyoming at the age of eleven where he sat around a campfire listening to real cowboys sing songs. After boarding school in London he studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Whilst travelling around the States performing in Shakespeare’s As You Like It he wrote the songs that appeared on his first album, Body On The Line, recorded in Stockholm in 2006 and produced by John Perry, guitarist with legendary British rockers The Only Ones. The album received favorable reviews in the British press including 5 stars and record of the week in the Daily Record, Scotland’s largest selling newspaper. Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, an old friend of Perry’s, declared Freddie “the kind of lyricist who only comes around once in a generation.”

Riding a wave, Freddie recorded his second album All My Strange Companions in Nashville with the great David Z behind the board, best known for his work with Prince. Released in 2008, the album garnered good reviews in the States and Variety picked Freddie as the number one must see act at SXSW 2008. In a review of a show at LA’s Hotel Café, Variety described Freddie as “a thin, bushy-haired man with a hat and a suit….whose songs, all of them bountiful in melodic hooks, bounce between the rambunctious and the gentle, referencing pop culture and matters of the heart.”

Despite seeming to be on the verge of a breakthrough, Freddie left his record label in London and started travelling between New York and Scotland, playing, writing and recording. Around this time, he coined the term “blong” to describe short, spontaneous songs written and recorded like a blog entry.  A collection of 50 of his blongs from this period were released by Pledge Music – one song per day beginning in October 2010. Once all 50 were released, John Jackson of Sony issued a hard cover booklet of each "blong" in its handwritten, artistic and original form.

Freddie’s latest album, The City Is King, was released in 2011.  His good buddy Teddy Kumpel will join him on 6-string banjo for this show - don't miss it!
