On Thursday, June 6th at 7:15pm and for four consecutive Thursday nights, the first session of the NJIO Chamber Music Workshop begins. The musicians that participate will be all different ages and divided into several chamber ensembles by their abilities and instruments. While the participants will range from beginners to seasoned chamber musicians, for many it will be their first time as chamber musicians. The non-competitive atmosphere provides the right catalyst for making beautiful chamber music.

Marty Steinberg, Principal Cellist with the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra and professional chamber musician will direct the workshop, providing mentors and professional chamber coaches for each of the ensembles. String, woodwind and brass players are invited to register. Players that have never performed chamber music, intermediate players that want to expand their music repertoire and advanced players that want to polish repertoire as well as pre-formed chamber music ensembles are welcome.

Registration deadline for the first session is May 23rd, but if you cannot register by the deadline, please call to inquire about availability. The registration deadline is June 17th for the second session which begins on Monday July 8th and runs four successive Monday evenings in July.

One of America’s unique orchestras, NJIO, has been invited to perform this summer at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. This non-profit organization is comprised of more than 100 musicians who range in age from 6 to over 80, with a wide variety of musical talents and backgrounds. Seniors and students work side by side with more experiences players mentoring their fellow performers. Professional musicians work alongside members as well, enabling NJIO to blend a high vision of artistic excellence with strong educational components in a non-competitive, musically exciting atmosphere.

The Summer Chamber Music Workshop will be held in New Providence at the New Jersey Youth Symphony. This program is supported, in part, through a grant from the American Chamber Music Network.
