The public is invited to join this hike, organized by the South Mountain Conservancy. No registration is needed and the event is free; just come to the meeting point a little before the starting time. Taken at a moderate pace, the hike will be about 5-6 miles in a broad circular route around the northeastern quarter of S. Mt. Reservation. Meet at Turtle Back Picnic Grove off of Walker Rd. in West Orange. The hike will pass Turtle Back Rock, the back side of the zoo, the Reservoir, the old Boy Scout area and follow the Rahway River to S. Orange Ave. where we will turn around and return via the Girl Scout area.
Steady rain automatically cancels a walk, intermittent showers do not. All hikes are appropriate for children 10 and older with their families. Bring your own water. Ending times are only estimates and may vary due to the weather, or the pace of a particular group. Call the leader, Dave Hogenauer, if you have questions.
To reach the starting point, take Northfield Ave. eastbound past the zoo and skating arena on your right and go to the second traffic light beyond the arena. Turn right onto Walker Rd. and drive about 0.2 of a mile to entrance on your right. Parking is a short drive up that road.
