Location: 45 Macculloch Ave, Morristown, NJ 07960
When: August 5, 2012
Time: 4:00 pm

At 4pm on Sunday August 5th 2012 Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will present The Winter’s Taleperformed by The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’sNext Stage Ensemble summer touring program.

The first of Shakespeare's great mystical and mythical romances, The Winter's Tale transports audiences through a fanciful and sometimes dark 16-year journey. From the seeds of unfounded jealousy, two kingdoms become entangled in a web of paranoia, insinuation, and mistrust.  Can a lost princess unwittingly be the key to healing the two realms?  From the dramatic accusations in the high court of Sicilia, to the raucous and jovial Bohemian sheep-sheering festival, to the revelatory final scene, The Winter's Tale celebrates the triumph of love, nobility, and all things good, and ends with a promise of rejuvenation, redemption and hope.

One of several outreach programs offered by The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, the Next Stage Ensemble brings the thrill of a live performance to audiences of all ages throughout New Jersey each summer, while enabling young performers to gain valuable experience in classical theatre and ensemble work.  The Next Stage Ensemble upholds the Shakespearean tradition of a traveling company of actors bringing its theatrical repertory into the community, by performing at hospitals, retirement communities, libraries, camps, schools and community centers. For additional information about this performance, please contact Macculloch Hall Historical Museum -more-

About the Next Stage Ensemble

The Next Stage Ensemble, now in its 20th year, was created in 1992 as part of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Summer Professional Training Program, to foster the work of early-career actors and directors. One of several exciting outreach programs offered by the Theatre, each summer the Next Stage Ensemble brings the thrill of live performance to audiences throughout New Jersey, while enabling young performers to gain valuable experience in classical theatre and ensemble work.

Much as an Elizabethan traveling company would have done, the troupe tours with only minimal sets and without lighting equipment. In traditional fashion, actors typically perform in multiple roles. The performers rely upon the text and their craft, rather than on elaborate sets, costumes and special effects, to create theatrical "magic."

Location: 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, NJ 07040
When: Daily
Time: 6:30 pm–10:00 pm

Auditions for Arthur Miller's The Crucible will be Monday, Aug. 6, Tuesday, Aug. 7, and Wednesday Aug. 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood. The play, Miller's  well-known colonial “witch hunt,” will be presented by interACT Theatre Productions.

interACT is a young Essex County theatre company that plans three main stage productions in its upcoming season. Past productions have included She Loves Me, The Bad Seed and Godspell. Performance dates for The Crucible are Oct. 12-Oct. 14 and Oct. 19-Oct. 21.

“Our mission is to be a more inclusive and accessible form of community theatre,” said Elena Svitavsky president, interACT Theatre Productions. “We want to engage as broad an array of community members as possible, whether on stage, backstage, off stage or in the audience – the magic of theatre should be available to everyone.”

The Crucible meets these goals with a large multi-age cast and compelling play. Set during the 17th-century Salem witch trials, The Crucible follows the village inhabitants as they get swept into the hysteria of teenage girls who wrongfully accuse residents of being in league with Satan.

The Crucible is a non-equity production and all auditions will be by cold reading. Appointments are strongly suggested though walk-ins will be seen at the first available time slot.
