New Exhibit – “A Fine Collection: Treasures from the Vault”

This Fall Macculloch Hall Historical Museum will exhibit some of its most popular pieces as well as many seldom-seen treasures which have been in storage. Vivid examples of the antique Oriental rug collection will be hung in the museum's first floor gallery, complemented by textbook examples of fine porcelain, silver, glass and furniture collected by Museum founder, W. Parsons Todd. This is a special opportunity to see rarely-exhibited treasures from the collection in the gallery and tour the rest of the museum to see many other pieces in period room settings.  Included in the exhibit are over a dozen Oriental rugs from the Museum’s collection. The exhibit will also feature some of our country’s founding heroes documents including artifacts including George Washington, Dolley Madison and others. The exhibit will also feature fine furniture such as a walnut English armchair, circa 1720, which was the inspiration for the Museum’s logo with the ornate looping back and shell design.

“A Fine Collection” has a perimeter layout which leaves the center of the room open for a series of speakers and musical programming taking place in conjunction with the exhibit over the next several months.  Programs in conjunction with the exhibit take place with music on the first Sunday at 4:30pm and speakers on the third Sunday of the month November through June (no programs in January). They begin on Sunday November 4th with “Johnny Has Gone for a Solider: Early American Music”.  “The Early Music Players” will perform parlor songs, political songs & dance music on replicas of 18th century instruments, such as the flute, recorder, viola da gamba & guitar.

On Sunday November 18 4:30pm - Executive Director Carrie Fellows will present “Fashions in the Age of Austen”, an exploration of women’s fashion encompassing 1790 – 1817. Using images from the period, photos of surviving garments, silhouettes in the Museum’s collection and handsewn reproduction clothing, Fellows will illustrate the Regency silhouette.

Tickets for Sunday programs will go on sale from 1pm on the day of the program, no advance sales.  A separate ticket ($12) is required for the musical programs; discounted ($10) for members, Seniors, Students and those who purchased a Museum tour ticket that afternoon.  House tours (regular admission applies) take place throughout the afternoon, the last tour leaves at 3pm. The upstairs galleries will remain open until 4:30pm however the “A Fine Collection” exhibit will close at 3pm in preparation for the program. Tickets to hear speakers are Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are free. Speaker tickets include admission to take part in a house tour if visitors arrive during the afternoon and sign up to tour.  For further information please visit maccullochhall.org

Both series continue in December with “The Early Music Players” returning on December 2, to perform “Carols and Capers: A Music Celebration from the Olde and New Worlds”  which celebrates the season with a collection of beautifully performed holiday music from various countries spanning the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods (1300's - 1700's).  Then on December 16th join F.M. Kirby Curator Ryan Hyman as he presents “Thomas Nast’s Historical Icons”, to learn more about the nineteenth century political cartoonist’s Thomas Nast including his popularization of the modern day image of Santa Claus

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site, collections, exhibits, and educational and cultural programs. The Museum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are free. Based on the work of Napoleon Hill, Koby reveals the six faculties that the most successful entrepreneurs throughout history have used to create success. When you learn how to apply these principles, you'll find new solutions to old problems, your challenges seem to get smaller, and you will realize that you are more driven and energetic to achieve your goals. According to Koby, most people are using only a fraction of the potential they have locked inside of themselves. This program teaches you how to tap into your potential so that life can be easier, more fulfilling, and a lot more fun.
