  Walk Schedule

09:30 am | Arrival/registration

Come join us for an early autumn walk to help feed the poor and hungry people of this world. We'll be walking to raise funds for Buddhist Global Relief's hunger relief projects--an opportunity to combine healthy exercise with social altruism, and to have fun at the same time. In today's world, hunger and malnutrition still persist and afflict over a billion people. One thing you can do to make a difference is to join this walk--or sponsor walkers--supporting BGR projects that address hunger and chronic malnutrition. Walking in unison we demonstrate our solidarity with the hungry and affirm our commitment to eliminate global poverty. Come walk with us and let your footsteps leave a trail of compassion upon the earth.

Ending times are only estimates and may vary due to the weather, or the pace of a particular group. Call the leader, Dave Hogenauer, if you have questions.

To reach the starting point, take Northfield Ave. eastbound past the zoo and skating arena on your right and go to the second traffic light beyond the arena. Turn right onto Walker Rd. and drive about 0.2 of a mile to entrance on your right. Parking is a short drive up that road.

Location: Millburn Train Station
35 Essex St, Millburn, NJ
When: October 11, 2010
Time: 7:00am–7:00pm

Join this 34-mile Lenape Trail hike from the Millburn Train Station through South Mountain Reservation and Eagle Rock Reservation, through Montclair and on to Newark Penn Station. The event will show support for the revitalization of this unique nature-to-urban trail, as well as for Liberty Water Gap Trail, a proposed 130-mile trail across the entire state of New Jersey. The hike is free, but everyone is encouraged to register so their support will be counted. For free registration, go to http://freewalkers.org/events/the-lenape34-columbus-day-walk

This walk is a total of 34 miles and going across a marked trail called the "Lenape Trail." There are alternatives for shorter segments, so walkers do not have to go the entire distance. Walkers also have the support of two train lines for mass transportation both to and from several points along the way.  There are also several busses runnng in the area.

The name "Lenape" suggests honoring the Native American ancestors of our area on a day when we also honor the discovery of America. So the organizers have dubbed this the "Origins Walk."

When: September 26, 2010
Time: 1:00pm–4:00pm

Every year, affluent Americans buy 22 million new bicycles and discard millions of old ones, abandoning many more unused in basements, sheds, and garages. Date: Sunday September 26th
Time: 1PM - 4PM
Location: The parking lot of Beth Hatikvah temple - 36 Chatham Road, Summit, NJ 07901

A $10 minimum donation with each bike or sewing machine is required to cover the cost of shipping. The $10, the bikes and sewing machines are all tax-deductible.
