The Sanctuary Concerts, northern New Jersey’s premier acoustic venue, hosts an evening of hot jazz guitar and Western swing music, featuring The Hot Club of Cowtown and The Frank Vignola Trio.
Lovers of red-hot guitar playing and frisky swing music will be especially tickled by this co-bill.
The Hot Club of Cowtown are a sassy, high-octane trio that play an infectious combination of Western swing and hot jazz. They are renowned for their "nostalgic love of western swing, big-band crooning, ragtime, and jazz improvisation" (Soundstage Review) and for "casting aside the audience's daily worries and levitating the room into a dreamy salon of carefree abandon. Even the heartbreak songs are served sunny-side up." (Toronto Globe & Mail). Called "the world’s greatest little Texas swing band," the trio features Elana James’s vivacious fiddle solos and vocals, Whit Smith’s cunning guitar phrasing and the delicious thump of Jake Erwin’s slap-bass.
Frank Vignola is a jaw-dropping guitarist who melds gypsy jazz, bluegrass, toe-tapping swing and front porch picking into an eclectic, upbeat sound all his own. The late Les Paul named him "one of my Five Most Admired Guitarists," and he has toured and recorded with everyone from Madonna, Elton John, and Ringo Starr to Lionel Hampton, Donald Fagen, Queen Latifah, David Grisman, and Bucky Pizzarelli. Expect Frank and his trio to deliver white-hot versions of American standards, gypsy jazz jams, and even jazzified covers of Mozart and Black Sabbath.
As always, admission includes desserts, coffee, and beverages at intermission.
