ABOUT OLIVER TWIST

Oliver Twist is a musical play with music, lyrics, and book by Lionel Bart.
The play is based on a novel by the great Charles Dickens, and is set in
London, England about 1850.

Dickens takes us through the journey of a young orphan boy living in a
workhouse/orphanage.  When he tries to escape, he is caught and sold to an
undertaker to work as a coffin follower, and his bed is a coffin!  He
escapes again only to find himself with Fagin, a common thief, and what's
worse he teaches homeless children to steal for him.  Oliver goes out to the
streets of London for his first theft and ironically a "twist" of fate leads
him to his real grandfather.

Dickens is able to shed light on the actual poverty of these times and even
manages to give back a conscience to some of his immoral characters.

Oliver won three Tony Awards in various categories in 1962-1963 on Broadway
and was first presented in London with a revival there in 1994 at the
Palladium.  It was also one of the few musicals to successfully be turned
into a movie by Hollywood.

Price: $9 adult, $7 child, $10 at the door
