Location: 525 Academy St, Maplewood, NJ 07040
When: January 13, 2011
Time: 7:30pm

Most students learn unevenly. Sometimes lags in skills can keep students from engaging in the joys of more complex and richer work; sometimes students need the support of a well-targeted computer learning game to help solidify foundational skills. Recently, there has been an explosion in the many ways technology can assist in student learning. This workshop is designed to acquaint parents with current technology resources for students.
Participants in this workshop will learn about the various ways their child can access audio books in school and at home. Information on free websites that offer audio books will be presented. Virtual libraries through the local public library along with Bookshare and Recording for Blind and Dyslexic students will be explored. In addition, two new programs that are available in school to support reading and math will be demonstrated. Symphony Math and Lexia reading are web delivered programs that support math and reading skills. Also, free websites that support student learning will be discussed.

The Sanctuary Concerts: Cheryl Wheeler, with special guests My Sweet Patootie

$

Location: 240 Southern Blvd, Chatham, NJ 07928
When: February 5, 2011
Time: 8:00pm

Cheryl Wheeler is perhaps the funniest stand-up comedian, the wittiest comic-song writer, and the most heart-wrenching author of fine-tuned emotional ballads whom you've ever heard...and certainly who have ever existed in a single performer. Chameleon-like, she slides from poet of sweet, intelligent modern ballads to a wicked stand-up jokester and gentle social critic.

Above all, she is heartbreakingly honest and touches her audience powerfully, as she's done nonstop since she began performing and touring in the 1970's. Since then, she's recorded twelve albums and has had her material covered by performers ranging from Maura O'Connell to Bette Midler and Garth Brooks. An evening with Cheryl is always a one-of-a-kind roller coaster ride through a range of very human emotions.

Fans of the late lamented Canadian string band Tanglefoot will especially welcome My Sweet Patootie, the duo of former Tanglefoot fiddler Sandra Swanell and former Tanglefoot virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Terry Young.  Described as "a world of string wizardry" [FAME reviews], My Sweet Patootie plays "hayseed jazz" and Western swing in a style they call "more fun than a martini at a tractor pull."

As always, admission includes desserts, coffee, and beverages at intermission.
